The Lady Trojans have been playing well, but not winning, over the last several weeks and looked to get a much needed win as they close their season. The 61-50 win was a reward for the hard work and game play for the game.
The Trojans opened shooting very poorly from the field and from the line. Going just 4-11 at the line was both good and bad. They were being aggressive and forcing fouls inside, but they were missing the shots when they were given. They trailed 9-18 after the first quarter.
The continued driving inside put the Jags in real foul trouble and they rotated their players as the fouls mounted. Better shooting from the field and the line helped the Trojans to cut the lead, and they were able to top the Jags at the half, 27-26.
Coach Tucker had a game plan that included pressing hard in the second half and waited to spring it on the Jags. He knew they had trouble with ball control so he let them be comfortable in the first half and then the women upped the pressure. It worked very well. Dajah Horne and Genesis Bernard forced several turnovers and Briana James was able to convert open shots. Free throws started falling and Tyra Evans muscled several tough rebounds. They were able to lead by 5 entering the 4th.
A little let-up allowed the Jags to get a small lead, but then the pressure worked its magic. Several Jags fouled out of the game and the Women were able to cruise to a 61-50 win. Good plan and good teamwork make it happen. All 8 players contributed to the win.
