Women’s Basketball traveled to Virginia on Friday night to play the Statesmen in a conference game, then turned around and played Cleveland at home on Sunday. The Trojans took the win over Richard Bland 72-60 on Friday and fell short to the Yetis 78-81. 

The Trojans are currently the sixth seed in Region 10 DII Women’s Basketball with eight more games left in the regular season. 

FTCC vs. Richard Bland: 72-60, Win

The Trojans were down after the first half, but made a run in the second quarter to tie the game up at half time. After the half, the Trojans scored a solid 23 points in the third quarter to the Statemen’s 12 to pull ahead. They outscored Richard Bland in the fourth quarter by one point to secure the win. 

Amore’ Kirkland (Fayetteville, NC) was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 22 points, five assists and three rebounds. Ke’onna Bryant (Fayetteville, NC) added 17 points and eight rebounds. Nyla Mitchell (Lumberton, NC) and Keara Duncan (Fayetteville, NC) each led the defense with nine rebounds.

FTCC vs. Cleveland: 78-81, Loss

The Yetis took a strong lead in the first quarter by 13 points and kept the energy going all the way through the second quarter. Being down by 12 points at the half, the Trojans held the Yetis to only nine points in the third to pull the game within four points. Outscoring the Yetis in the fourth quarter, the Trojans tied and then took their first lead of the game. Down to the final seconds, the Yetis hit a clutch three pointer and the Trojans bank a three to put the game within one point. After a couple fouls that brought Cleveland to the line, the Yetis pulled out the win with a three point difference. 

Bryant had her best game of the season, scoring 27 points with three rebounds. Kirkland had a double double game with 10 points and 10 assists. Mitchell ended with 21 points, making six three points shots including her banks shot to put the game within one. Amire Banks (Mount Vernon, GA) added 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

The Trojans are back on the road Friday as they head to Cleveland CC for a rematch against the Yetis on their turf. Women’s Basketball’s next home game is Wednesday, February 5 with a makeup game against Southwest Virginia. Tip off is set for 5:30pm.
