- 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Lafayette Lecture: Kiffin Rockwell & the Lafayette Escadrille
This lecture by author Mark Trapp will focus on Kiffin Rockwell and the Lafayette Escadrille, a French fighter squadron in the early days of World War I that was comprised mostly of volunteer pilots from the United States. The squadron was named for the Marquis de Lafayette, the French hero who volunteered to fight for the Continental Army in the American Revolution. Fayetteville is named for Lafayette and the lecture coincides with the 267th anniversary of his birthday. Trapp is the author of “A Destiny of Undying Greatness: Kiffin Rockwell and the Boys Who Remembered Lafayette.” Admission is free and the public is welcome.
