WINTERVILLE, N.C. — FTCC volleyball extended its winning streak to six matches Tuesday, Oct. 8, with a 3-1 road win over Region 10 opponent Pitt CC.
The win avenges the loss the Trojans suffered at the hands of the Bulldogs earlier this season, when Pitt took a straight-set victory over FTCC in the Trojans’ first home match of the year.
Tuesday’s win moves FTCC (11-5, 6-2) into fifth place in the Region 10 Division II standings.
The Trojans dropped the first set 25-20 but rebounding to take the next three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23 and 25-18.
Errors up front were the difference. After committing 10 errors on attack in the first set, the Trojans cut that number down to just one in the second set and three apiece in the third and fourth sets.
Sophomore middles McKenzie Smith and Da’Nya McPhatter each had a match-high 11 kills. Smith committed just three errors in the match, putting together a .364 kill percentage. She also had two solo blocks and two block assists.
Alexis Spexarth added 10 kills.
Setter Krislyn Bullard had 30 assists and led the match with 15 digs. AnnMarie Miller had 13 digs, while Paige Stalnaker tallied 12.
The match was the Trojans’ fourth of a five-game road trip. The team travels to Wentworth, N.C., next to face Rockingham CC on Thursday, Oct. 10.
The Trojans return home Saturday, Oct. 12, for a tri-match against Louisburg and USC Salkehatchie. FTCC’s matches begin at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
