FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech volleyball has released its schedule for the fall season, featuring 26 regular-season matches.
The Trojans’ fall 2021 campaign begins at home Aug. 24, and the regular season will conclude Oct. 22 with Sophomore Night. Home matches will be played at Horace Sisk Gymnasium.
“The girls are itching to get back on the court together, and the nucleus of our team is back,” head coach Moe Licardo said. “Being back in class and having their teammates back around them everyday will help them settle into a routine.”
The Trojans return to the court less than five months after the Spring 2021 season. The season, originally slated for the fall, was moved by the NJCAA in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The team responded to the challenge by posting its best finish in program history, finishing 9-4 overall and reaching the NJCAA Southeast B District Championship in April.
The Trojans will open the season playing seven of their first eight contests at home. They’ll then hit the road for a four-match road stretch Sept. 17 and play eight of their next 10 matches away. Home matches on Sept. 21 and 30, against Cape Fear CC and USC Sumter, respectively, will provide a break from the travel.
The fall season will include the return of some Region 10 opponents that opted to sit out the spring season, including Wake Tech and Pitt CC, and introduces Richard Bland College, formerly a Division I team, to Division II competition.
“We have schools that are traditionally good coming back, plus schools coming in like Richard Bland and Montgomery College that we expect to be strong,” Licardo said. “This is an aggressive schedule, but that’s the way it should be.”
