Softball hosted the Dolphins of Brunswick Community College on Saturday for a conference doubleheader. Brunswick took both games to make the Trojans 3-17 overall and 1-3 in conference play. 

FTCC vs. Brunswick:

Game One- 1-13, Loss (5-innings)

The Dolphins put up five runs in the first inning and continued to add to their lead to end the game early in five innings. 

The Trojans scored their one and only run in the bottom of the fifth. Grace Bailey (Eastover, NC) pinch hit and was immediately hit by pitch. Raven Ross-Gillespie (West End, NC) singled and Trinity Gaither (Bunnlevel, NC) singled. Isabella Finelli (Pembroke, NC) hit a sacrifice fly to earn the only Trojan run of the game. 

Albani Hooker (Sanford, NC) pitched all five innings for the Trojans giving up eight earned runs and striking out two. 

 

Game Two- 6-19, Loss

The Dolphins again put up an early lead in game two, scoring eight runs in the top of the first. This time, the Trojans responded back scoring three in the second and three in the third to bring the game within three runs. 

Mia Vasquez (St. Pauls, NC) reached on an error to lead off the second and Maddie Burns (Sanford, NC) walked. With one out Ross-Gillespie singled on a bunt to load the bases. Leah Benjamin (McColl, SC) was hit by pitch to plate the first run followed by a single from Gaither to score two more. 

In the third, Vasquez drew a one out walk and Burns singled. Bailey put a ball in play to cause a Dolphin error to score the fourth Trojan run and Burns later scored on passed ball. The Dolphins committed one more error to allow the Trojans to make it a 6-9 game. 

The Dolphins added to their lead in the sixth and seventh to sweep the doubleheader. 

 

Softball will host Southeastern CC-Whiteville for a conference doubleheader starting at 3pm on Wednesday. Then they are back at home hosting Richard Bland College this weekend with a single game Friday at 5pm and a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.
