FTCC recognized students who completed the CDL course in a ceremony Dec. 11, 2024.

Fayetteville Technical Community College held a ceremony for students who completed the CDL Class A or Class B courses last week, with the occasion marked by a special presentation from the State Employees’ Credit Union Foundation.

In addition to recognizing the graduates, FTCC President Dr. Mark Sorrells and Vice President of Continuing Education Dr. Jolee Marsh were on hand to accept $18,000 in funding from the SECU Foundation.

Through the SECU Bridge to Career Program, the money helps remove financial barriers for students seeking to obtain state-regulated or industry-recognized credentials through workforce continuing education programs at North Carolina Community Colleges.

FTCC received the maximum amount of $18,000, with $15,000 paying for 30 $500 scholarships and $3,000 going towards administrative costs of the program.

The scholarship funds can be used for any component of the total cost for a student to attend, including registration fees, course fees, books, course supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, and childcare.

FTCC has received the funding for several years and has used it primarily for its CDL and Logistics programs in the Continuing Education department. FTCC has awarded half of the 30 scholarships for the current fiscal year.
