Fayetteville Technical Community is holding several events on its Fayetteville campus this week that are open to the public with free admission.
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24-25: Grammy Award-winning pianist and Latin jazz recording artist Lannie Battistini visits FTCC as part of the College’s Guest Artist Concert Series and will perform in concert, as well as host a lecture and a workshop, all in Cumberland Auditorium.
- Tuesday, Oct. 24, noon: Battistini will lecture on Finding Your Artistic Voice & Monetizing It.
- Wednesday, Oct. 25, 10:30 am: Battistini will hold a workshop entitled “How to Improvise – Basic Jazz Improvisation.”
- Wednesday, Oct. 25, 7 pm: Lannie Battistini will perform in concert in a program featuring a blend of popular jazz classics and vibrant original Latin jazz compositions. Battistini will be joined by FTCC’s student ensemble and other local music faculty and community musicians.
Thursday, Oct. 26, 1 pm, Tony Rand Student Center Multipurpose Room: Outer Banks historian Tama Creef will give a lecture entitled “Why the Roanoke Voyages Failed: Theories Abound” and will provide an overview of the extensive research that has been conducted over the years and how the tragedy of the Lost Colony has been used in folklore, art and commerce. Thursday, Oct. 26, 4-6 pm, The Art Gallery at the Paul H. Thompson Library: A reception is being held to celebrate the new “Modern Textiles” exhibit in The Art Gallery @ The Library. The three women artists whose work is featured will discuss their creative practices and how they combine personal meaning with large-scale fabric creations. The exhibit will run through Dec. 15.
