FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Tech baseball closed out the 2021 season with a 8-6 loss to Patrick Henry CC on Sunday, finishing the 2021 season at J.P. Riddle Stadium.

The Trojans finish the season with a 9-24 overall record, the program’s best mark since its start in 2019. The Trojans won just five games during that inaugural season, while the 2020 season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Right-handed pitcher Cyrus Jacobs, one of just four sophomores on the Trojans’ roster this season, got the start on the day. Jacobs threw 4 and one-third innings, guiding the Trojans to a 2-1 lead going into the top of the fourth inning.

The Patriots, who received votes in this week’s NJCAA Division II Top 20 poll, broke open in the fourth for four runs, pulling ahead with a lead the Trojans wouldn’t catch.

The loss left the Trojans in sixth place in the Region 10 DII West Division.

When reflecting on the Trojans’ season, coach Jack Brown, who took over in an interim capacity in November, opted for a quote by Major League Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda.

“No matter how good you are, you’re going to lose one-third of your games. No matter how bad you are you’re going to win one-third of your games. It’s the other third that makes the difference.”
