The Trojan Men’s Baseball and Women’s Softball teams took on Wake Tech this weekend. The women traveled to Fuquay-Varina, while the men played their games at home. Congratulations to the Trojan Women’s team who continued their winning streak. The Men’s team is still looking for a home win.

Men’s Baseball

The weather once again played a role on Saturday, as the men were to host a Saturday double-header. The first game was postponed to Sunday, and the first pitch was at 4 p.m. The Trojans struck early and led 2-1 after the first inning. Following several innings and too many unforced errors, the Trojans trailed 3-5 after four innings. Starter Trevan Locklear was replaced by Johnnie Lowery who went the final six innings and struck out nine Eagles. Entering the ninth inning, the Trojans needed to rally from the 5-8 deficit. Two quick outs appeared to end the day, but the Trojans had four straight his scoring two runs with two outs. The Eagles turned to their closer to try to finish off the Trojans. He was able to strike out Jaiden Barker to end the threat. The Trojans showed that they were ready to play the full game and never game up.

The Sunday double-header did not go well for the Trojans. Despite a strong start by Tamiris Palmer, the Trojans could not score enough runs. A very poor eighth inning led to seven Eagle runs, and the Trojans fell 3-12. The second game yielded the Trojans the first shutout loss of the season, as they fell 0-11. The Trojans were unable to gain the needed momentum, and the Eagles swept the Trojans in their first meeting.

Women’s Softball

The women had much different results, as they were on the road for the second straight weekend. The Eagles jumped out early with a 1-4 lead in the first. The Trojans scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to force an extra inning. The Trojans put up two runs and won 7-6 in eight innings for their first extra-inning win of the season.

The Trojans excelled during their second game, scoring three runs in the thirds and five in the fourth innings to go up 8-0 before the Eagles could put any runs across. They swept the double-header with an 8-3 win.

The final game appeared to be going the Trojan’s way, as they entered the bottom of the 7th leading 5-3. They gave up 3 runs to drop the final game this weekend 5-6. With the series win, the Trojans continue their road winning streak and move up the standings to a tie for fifth place with Florence-Darlington Tech, the team they’ll face this weekend.
