When FTCC’s Fine Arts department secured the Paul H. Thompson Library foyer to exhibit art, Katharine Morrill immediately set her sights on showcasing some of the department’s recent graduates.
“We were lucky enough to get the gallery space in the library in Spring of last year, and to start we wanted to gather groups rather than individual artists,” Morrill said.
A piece of that vision became reality this month as The Alumni Art Exhibition debuted at The Art Gallery @ The Library. The show’s opening reception is 4-6 p.m. Nov. 3. Music and food will be provided at this free event.
Ten FTCC alumni have works in the exhibition: Kelly Hymes, Melanie Banks-Scrudder, Mattea Sylvester, Mary Zanders, Jamar Herion, Angie Stout, Casey Toney, Tate Meyers, PJ Wachtler, Kelsey Pearce and Tiara Mitchell.
Morrill said most of artists transferred to four-year institutions after completing their associate degree at FTCC and are working in a variety of fields relevant to their degrees.
“We get to celebrate their creativity, but also show what they’ve been doing in their careers with a fine arts degree,” she said. “It’s great to see what they’re doing in art in their everyday lives.”
The Alumni Art Exhibition is on display until Dec. 16.
The Art Gallery’s next exhibition will feature another group of artists, this time students from Cumberland County high schools. That show will debut Jan. 16.
