Fayetteville, N.C. – Fayetteville Technical Community College today announced an exciting opportunity for military veterans and others interested in IT careers thanks to an expanded collaboration with Red Hat, the world’s leading provider of open source solutions.
Starting in the Spring of 2022, FTCC will offer short-term, non-credit courses through which students can become prepared to take the Red Hat Certified System Administrator exam. Students who pass the exam will be positioned for jobs in the high-demand IT field and be better qualified for positions surrounding Linux, System Administration, and the cloud.
FTCC officials said the course is ideal for veterans and transitioning members of the military who may be eligible to take the course for free through the College’s Transition Tech program.
Leaders from FTCC and Red Hat met at the College this morning to announce and discuss the new program.
“This program offers students and veterans the chance to better prepare for a more lucrative, high-demand IT field that is expected to keep growing,” said Dr. Mark Sorrells, FTCC’s Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Services.
“We see programs like FTCC’s non-credit Red Hat certificate program as one of the areas that is able to bridge the gap between skills, education, and the workforce and labor market demands of employers,” said Nancy Bohannon, Vice President of State and Local Education at Red Hat.
The in-person instruction will be provided in a hands-on computer lab at FTCC where students will spend 240 hours learning to work in the Red Hat environment. FTCC also has a testing center where students will be able to sit for the Red Hat Certified System Administrator exam.
FTCC and Red Hat have collaborated on other successful projects. FTCC offers Red Hat Academy, a college-level curriculum program that enables students to use Red Hat resources and take certification exams at discounted prices. The program enables students to progress quickly towards employment in the field of open source software solutions.
Red Hat has recognized both FTCC and individual FTCC instructors for top honors for Red Hat Academy work.
FTCC has a strong Computer and Information Technologies program. The College has been a designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education since May 2018.
