FTCC and Cape Fear Valley Health have partnered to fund the education of interested enrollees of FTCC’s Nursing Assistant I & II programs.
FTCC Nursing Assistant I & II program students who commit to three years of employment with Cape Fear Valley will have their education funded by CFV to include:
- tuition
- uniform
- books
- required course supplies
- state certification fees
Upon completing their courses and skill/competency evaluations, graduates of FTCC’s CNA I or II programs would be eligible to apply for the Nurse Aide I or II positions.
Cape Fear Valley talent acquisition director Mary Beth Pilone says the initiative is designed to help relieve the national nursing shortage by bolstering the number of nurse aides available to assist nurses.
“We have been asked to do more to provide more assistance to our nurses that are out on the floor, and nurse aides are by far the best way to do it,” Pilone says. “We have been really ramping up on our recruitment for CNAs for quite some time, and we will continue to do so.”
Pilone says this initiative is a great starting opportunity for students interested in pursuing a future LPN or RN program.

Certified Nursing Assistant I
This course prepares graduates to provide personal care and perform basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. The course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and the skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide I with the NCNAR.
Certified Nursing Assistant II
The Nursing Assistant II course prepares graduates to perform more complex skills for patients or residents regardless of the setting. The course includes class, laboratory, and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and the skill/competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II with the NCBON.
