Four Fayetteville Technical Community College students earned first-place finishes at the 2024 SkillsUSA State Championships in Greensboro in April and 13 other students placed in their competition categories.
The first-place winners are eligible to compete in the national SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta in June.
“We’re proud of these students’ accomplishments and we appreciate all of the faculty and staff who contributed to their success,” said FTCC President Dr. Mark Sorrells.
More than 2,900 students competed in 130 hands-on trade, technical and leadership contests at the SkillsUSA North Carolina Championships. SkillsUSA showcases Career and Technical Education and contests span more than 95 trade areas.
FTCC’s first-place finishers were:
- Aria Ortiz and Erica Page (team), 3-D Visualization and Animation
- Richard Tunoa-Scanlan, Baking and Pastry Arts
- Robert Edison, Collision Repair Technology
Other FTCC students placing in their contests were:
- Iris Bloomfield, Antanyjah Dorisme, Savannah White and Nia Williams (team), 2nd place, Entrepreneurship
- Lindsay Kaiser, 2nd place, Related Technical Math
- Brittany O’Neal, 2nd place, Hair Coloring
- Ashley Thomas, 2nd place, Natural Hair Design & Braids
- Michael Thomas, 2nd place, Prepared Speech
- Alexis Viera, 2nd place, Beginner Cosmetology
- Catherine Roller, 4th place, Fantasy Hair and Makeup
