Saturday, April 6 was Youth Day at JP Riddle Stadium. The kids were able to participate in a variety of activities on the field, take pictures with Theo and had the chance to win the raffle for an FTCC Baseball Jersey and a Nike Bat Bag. There was a great turnout and a bunch of prizes were won on a beautiful day for baseball games.
Baseball hosted Lenoir Community College in a three-game series taking game one, but falling in the final two games.

Game One, 10-0 Win (6-innings)
The Trojans scored first in the bottom of the second inning. Wilmer Cuevas (Brentwood, NY) led off with a walk followed by a single from Braylan Bull (Cumming, GA). Derrick Hall (Fayetteville, NC) walked to load the bases and Aaron Graves (Upper Marlboro, MD) hit into a fielder’s choice to plate the first Trojan runner. With two outs, Jaylon Woodley (Courtland, VA) drew the third walk of the inning before Zavion Ingram (Clayton, NC) singled to score two more runners.
Caleb Holland (Fayetteville, NC) started the third inning off with a single and Cuevas followed with a two-run homerun to put the Trojans up 5-0.
The Trojans scored three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Ingram was hit by a pitch and Mason Turner (Lexington, SC) singled to put two runners on. Holland smashed a three-run homerun over the left field fence to give the Trojans an 8-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Trojans scored the final two runs they needed to end the game early with a leadoff single from Cuevas, followed by two walks and an error from the Lancers.
The Trojans threw two arms in the contest, holding the Lancers to no runs and three hits. Brett Alvis (Hanover, VA) started on the mound getting the win for the Trojans. He threw 5.1 innings of work getting seven strikeouts. Ben Rohrbach (Stafford, VA) finished the final .2 inning giving up no runs, no hits and having one strikeout.
Game Two, 4-12 Loss
The Lancers took the lead in the second inning and never lost it throughout all seven innings of game two.
The Trojans scored their first run in the bottom of the fourth. Turner led off the inning with a walk and Holland singled. With one out, Markey Purvis (Bennettsville, SC) was hit by a pitch and Hall grounded into a fielder’s choice, which allowed one run to score.
One more run was scored for the Trojans in the fifth to pull the game within three. Devin Outlaw (Jacksonville, FL) started the inning off with a single and advanced to second on the throw and eventually made it to third on a passed ball. He scored on a sacrifice fly from Woodley.
The Lancers continued to score to bring their lead to 7-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Trojans were able to plate two more runs in the sixth inning on a two-run homerun from Purvis, but were unable to score any in the seventh.
Holland started on the bump for the Trojans throwing 2.2 innings of work. Matthew Roberts (Canton, NC) and Hunter Beard (Spring Lake, NC) finished the final innings.
Game Three, 4-6 Loss
The Trojans scored first in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run homerun from Holland, his second on the weekend.
Lenoir took the lead in the third inning scoring five runs.
Outlaw led off the fifth inning with a triple and scored on a single from Woodley. Woodley stole third base and scored on a sacrifice fly from Ingram to put the game within one run.
The Lancers added an insurance run in the top of the sixth and the Trojans were unable answer back in the final innings.
Tanner McNeal (Currituck County, NC) pitched the first 2.2 innings giving up seven hit and five runs. Rohrbach threw the next 5.1 innings, allowing one run and had eight strikeouts. Rob Willis (Montgomery, AL) closed the final inning for the Trojans giving up no runs, not hits with one strikeout.
Baseball is on the road this Wednesday for a non-conference midweek game at Paul D. Camp. They will be back on the road to Virginia this weekend when they head to Bryant & Stratton for their next conference series.
