InvisibleWhat: Educator Workshop: Personally Connected Pedagogy

Presenter: Dr. Sonny Kelly

“Personally Connected Pedagogy” is an interactive workshop created and led by Dr. Sonny Kelly, an expert in interpersonal communication. Using storytelling, poetry, and examples from participants’ own experiences, Dr. Kelly will lead teachers through a process of diagnosing patterns of disconnection in the classroom and creating a community with their students where each individual feels seen, valued, and affirmed. Participants in this workshop will learn clear, effective strategies for nourishing an inclusive classroom climate in which students feel able to show up with their whole selves – a climate which will in turn help students to better empathize with others. All of this hinges upon the practice of taking on a dual perspective – putting ourselves in others’ shoes just long enough to understand the world through their eyes.
