FTCC students interested in research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics or engineering are invited to apply to the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program, which covers qualifying expenses up to a maximum of $7,500 per year.
Eligibility requirements for students include:
- Must be a full-time matriculated sophomore or junior pursuing a degree at an accredited 2- or 4-year institution of higher education during the 2021-22 academic year
- Must intend to pursue a research career in a natural science, mathematics or engineering
- Must have a college grade point average of at least a 3.00 on a 4.00 scale
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Must be nominated for the scholarship by their current academic institution
Scholarships will be awarded in the spring of 2022 to students who will be college juniors or seniors during the 2022-23 academic year.
The nomination period for the 2022 competition opens on Sept. 7, 2021. The submission deadline for all 2022 nominations is 6 p.m. (EST) on Jan. 28, 2022. Awardees will be announced on March 25, 2022.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation operates the educational scholarship program, which is designed to provide opportunities for outstanding U.S. students with excellent academic records and demonstrated interest in, and potential for, research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. The foundation was established by Congress in 1986.
