The weekend series vs. Pitt CC was in question for Baseball and Softball. The rain washed away the Friday/Saturday match up at Pitt, while the men were able to play two games on Sunday. The #12 ranked Bulldogs looked to dominate the Trojans and escaped with two wins.
The first game on Sunday opened well with the Trojans putting men on base, but not able to get them across. The Bulldogs scored one run on a walk, two balks and a wild pitch, but no hits. Int he 3rd inning the Bulldog offense came alive with 4 hits and scored all four. The Trojans were able to get bases loaded, but were only able to score one. Tyler Dove entered the game in the 4th inning and went six strong innings giving up only 3 runs to keep his strong outings alive. The Trojans fell 1-8 in the opener.
The second game was close until the third inning where a combination of Bulldog hitting and Trojan errors put the Trojans down, 0-7. This time the Trojans hit back hard. They were able to score 7 in the bottom of the 3rd to tie the game. Using patient batting they were able to score 2 on bases loaded walks with the timely hitting. They were again behind in the 5th inning 7-9 and knotted the score at 9-9. The Trojans forced the Bulldogs to play small ball to try and eke out runs to stay ahead. Unfortunately, the Trojans could not match the 5 runs in the last two innings and fell 10-14.
This was a strong day of individual performances that highlighted a good team effort. Johnnie Lowery, Chuck Jordan, and Jamison Cummings had good offensive days. Josh Carter got the only Trojan RBI in two straight games to improve his offense as well.
The Trojans are having great individual performances against some tough region teams. The program is staring to head where it needs to be.
