The FTCC Trojans Women’s Basketball Team faced the higher seeded Clinton College Gold Bears in the first round of the NJCAA Region 10 D-II Tournament. Like the men did last weekend, the women played their first post-season game in program history and came out a winner, 82-75, in Rock Hill, SC. With the win, the Trojans advance to the second round to face #2 seed, Catawba Valley. The Trojans lost both regular season games to the strong Red Hawks. Getting the first win is the first step, though. The team can’t win a game that they are not playing in.
The Trojans played strong and had great balance all night. They trailed 35-41 at the half. Coach Tucker worked his magic at half time, and the Trojans put up 30 pts. in the 3rd quarter, led by Dejah Horne and Amarilis Floyd with 7 pts., each. Briana Evans and Chania Troy had a great half with 9 pts., each, and they battled strong on the boards. Clinton’s roster has been tough all year, but they only had five players in the game. Reed and Williams fouled out late to break any chance at a comeback.
The two Trojan teams are playing well in their first post-season tournaments. They are ready to survive and advance.
