FTCC Senior Vice President for Academic and Student Services Dr. Murtis Worth and Dean of Nursing Dr. Sharon Gallagher have been named Health Care Heroes by Greater Fayetteville Business Journal.

The publication recognized 10 local professionals for their work in promoting, providing, and improving healthcare in the community.

Worth and Gallagher received the Community Achievement Award in recognition of their role in expanding FTCC’s Nursing program.

FTCC has recently completed a two-phase project to expand nursing facilities on its Fayetteville campus. The college’s two-story Nursing Education & Simulation Center, which opened in January 2023, includes classrooms and 32 hospital beds in state-of-the-art simulation labs as well as study rooms and meeting spaces.

In September, the adjacent Nursing Education Annex opened, providing office space for faculty and staff.

Plans for the project developed while Worth was still Dean of Nursing, the position she held before being named senior vice president.

Expansion of the Nursing program continues with a plan to increase student enrollment capacity in the program from 280 to 400 to help meet workforce demands in Cumberland and the surrounding counties.
