8:00 AM -5:00 PM: Hurricane Helene Relief Effort
FTCC is joining efforts to provide relief to communities in western North Carolina that were impacted by Hurricane Helene. As part of this effort, FTCC is working with the N.C. Community College System’s collection effort in Raleigh on Oct. 13-14. FTCC itself will be collecting donated items for Hurricane Helene relief during business hours on weekdays to the address listed below. This collection effort will continue until further notice. Donations from the public are welcome.
Location: FTCC’s Property Control & Services department at 245 Dever St. (in the big parking lot where FTCC’s CDL trucks practice maneuvering).
Monday, Oct. 21 – Sunday, Oct. 27
Apply to select universities for FREE as part of NC Countdown to College (C2C).
Many North Carolina colleges and universities participate in C2C by waiving application fees during College Application Week, which begins at 7:30 AM on Monday, Oct. 21, and ends at 11:59 PM on Sunday, Oct. 27. Students can use this time to save money by not paying for transfer application fees. A list of participating colleges can be found at CFNC.org.

8:00 AM -3:00 PM: Hands-Only CPR Workshop
Did you know that hands-only CPR, performed immediately after cardiac arrest, can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival? Learn the basics of this important skill in just a few minutes from members of FTCC’s Association of Nursing Students. They’ll be teaching all comers between 8am and 3pm. Please stop by!

Dr. Casey Groover from FTCC’s Disability Support Services Office is hosting a series of one-hour success workshop sessions. Today’s session focuses on Time Management skills.

Looking at your options for college or know someone who is? FTCC is hosting the Trojan Showcase from 3-6pm on Tuesday, Oct. 22. It’s a day that Cumberland County Schools students have off so it’s a perfect time for them – and others – to explore FTCC’s multi-varied academic programs in a fun and informative way. You can also get help with applying for college, learn about financial aid options and more. Don’t miss it!

Registration for Spring curriculum classes runs from Monday, Oct. 28, through Sunday, Jan. 12, and the first day of Spring classes is Monday, Jan. 13. Tuesday, Oct. 29
1:30 PM: Author Talk & Book Signing
Campbell University Law School Dean and former U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge J. Rich Leonard comes to FTCC to speak about his interesting and entertaining memoir: “From Welcome to Windhoek: A Judge’s Journey.”
The book is described as “the remarkable story of how a boy from rural Welcome, North Carolina, grew up to become an innovative judge, global citizen, and go-to guy for court-building in emerging African nations.
“Along the way, he organizes the first-ever judicial conference in Tanzania, jogs with children in Lusaka, dances with a python, and has adventures ranging from the harrowing to the hilarious.
“In the end, he discovers the distance between Welcome and Windhoek (capital of the African country of Namibia) is not as great as he had imagined, and that both places now occupy adjoining spaces in his heart.”
Leonard will also sign books after his talk. Please note: Books will not be sold at this event but are available for purchase at City Center Gallery & Books in downtown Fayetteville and through Amazon.com and other outlets.
Admission to this event is free and the public is invited.
