using the novell network

Management Information Services > Service and Desktop Support > Help Desk Support > Novell > Using the Novell Network

In order to access the Novell network of FTCC you must follow the proper login procedure.  Logging in requires a username and password.  Your username is the first 7 letters of your last name and 1st name initial (xxxxxxxy).

ACCESSING YOUR S:\DRIVE AND SAVING YOUR FILES

When your Novell account is created, so is your own personal directory for saving documents.  You MUST be logged into Novell in order to access your S:\drive.  You cannot bypass this procedure; keep in mind that "Workstation Only" will only give you access your desktop and not the network resources like your S:\drive or Datatel.

To ensure you have logged in properly, right-click the red "N" in your system tray at the bottom of the desktop screen and select "Novell Connections".

You will see that you are connected to FTCC's servers under Resource (eDirectory Services).  If you are not connected to any of the servers, you will see "Not Authenticated" in the Novell Connections dialog box.  You should reboot your PC and try logging in to Novell again.

To view your S:\drive, find your "My Computer" icon and double-click it to open the window.  Skim thru all system folders, local and network drives displayed in the window and find the drive that starts with your username.

To save documents to your S:\drive, simply click File > Save As and "Browser" to it by going thru the "My Computer" icon or the drop-down arrow at the end of the "Save In" field.  Don't forget to click SAVE!!!
**Be sure of where you are saving your documents by being aware of the "Save In" location.**

APPLICATION EXPLORER AND HELP DESK REQUESTER

Logging in properly gives you access to the Application Launcher/Explorer.  This provides network access to software and updates that are available thru the network connection.

Application Launcher/Explorer also deploys an icon called the "Help Desk Requester" to your desktop.  This is the icon that you will use to request a work order in the event of experiencing problems with your desktop computer or printer.
